The IBM/Lenovo Thinkcentre S50 8183 is a small, form factor desktop computer that is designed to run a 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating system such as Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Based on Intel technology, it supports Pentium 4 and Celeron processors and has an Intel 865G chipset with integrated on-board video, audio and networking.

CPU
IBM ships the 8183 with a number of different processors ranging from 2.4 to 3.2 gigahertz if they are Pentium 4s and 2.0 to 2.6 gigahertz if they are Celerons. It supports Intel processors with 400, 533 or 800 megahertz front side bus speeds and which fit a 478-pin socket.

RAM
The ThinkCentre 8183’s twin 184-pin sockets can each hold up to 1 gigabyte of memory IBM has designed the system to work with 333 megahertz DDR SDRAM, although Celeron processors will slow it down to 266 megahertz.

Drives
Five different hard drive options are available for this computer -- two 40GB drives, two 80GB drives and one 120GB drive. It can also be configured with a CD-ROM drive, DVD-ROM drive, CD-RW drive or combination CD-RW and DVD-ROM drive.

Multimedia
Video output is handled by the onboard Intel 865G graphics processor. IBM also included an AC ’97 compatible audio system, which uses the system’s main processor to handle the actual generation of sound.

Slots & Ports
In addition to its two memory slots, the ThinkCentre S50-8183 has two open half-length 32-bit PCI slots. External ports include eight USB 2.0 ports, two PS/2 ports, two nine-pin serial ports and a parallel port. A VGA port allows you to connect a monitor while front microphone and headphone ports and rear audio line-in and line-out ports allow you to use the computer’s sound capabilities. It also has an RJ-45 port for networking and may have an RJ-11 port if the optional modem is installed.
